Try & Lilly manufactures uniform caps for every police constabulary in the UK, and a number of forces around the world. The ladies bowlers we supply meet the nationally agreed specification and Try & Lilly is the only manufacturer capable of producing to this specification, which incorporates performance aspects of the EN397 safety standard for headwear.

In 2022, Try & Lilly was selected as the supplier for police uniform headdress by Blue Light Commercial – established by the Home Office to work with blue light organisations and commercial services – under a framework agreement.

Our history manufacturing police caps, bowlers and helmets goes back to the 1970s when uniform caps became widespread across UK constabularies. With the extensive design and manufacturing knowledge Try & Lilly has built up over the years, we are uniquely able to make headwear that gives serving policemen and women the durability, lightness and comfort they deserve.

With forces stretched for resources, we understand the need to work to a budget but at Try & Lilly we will never compromise on comfort.

There has been a revival in the use of uniform caps in UK fire brigades in recent years. At Try & Lilly we make fire caps for most UK fire authorities, and can make them for any rank in the service.

Try & Lilly has long-standing expertise designing and manufacturing uniform caps and ceremonial headwear for armed forces units around the world. We are one of the UK’s biggest and longest-serving suppliers.

In 2021, Leidos, the managing agent delivery partner and prime contractor for the Ministry of Defence , awarded Try & Lilly a contract to supply all British Army, Navy, Air Force and Specialist ceremonial and parade headwear.

Under the contract we deliver over 100 different styles, each to an exacting specification.

There is more to academic headwear than mortarboards for graduation – at Try & Lilly we also specialise in academic bonnets for universities across the country, in a wide range of colours.
